2nd semester is beginning its fourth week.
Assessment and evaluation:
- Daily Notes & Log (knowledge and communication; 1, 2, 3rd quarters) 35%
- Practical (thinking, problem solving, & application; 1, 2, 3rd quarters) 35%
- Final Summative (Daily Notes & Log; Practical; 4th quarter) 30%
- TOTAL 100%
- The assessment is the printed feed back I will print on the students Daily Notes & Log sheets.
- The evaluation is the actual mark. Daily Notes, ?/5; Daily Log, ?/5; Daily Practical, ?/10.
- The Daily Notes & Log sheets also include a rubric of my evaluation of their effort.
- I require that all students keep all their provided Daily Notes & Log sheets in a provided Report Folder, in order by date.
- I will only evaluate work that is completed on the provided Daily Notes & Log sheet.
- The student must use one page (side) for each day.
- The student must neatly print their name (first & last) and the date (mm/dd/yy) on the lines provided, every day.
- The student must copy the note (Safety; Tools & Equipment; Theory) from the black board every day, exactly as it is. The student needs to develop their own professional print style that is easy to read by anyone and must be printed only on the lines provided.
- The student must record the year, make, and model of any vehicle they are working on.
- The student must describe the work done during the class in detail and step by step (ex. safely raise vehicle on lift; remove engine oil pan drain bolt; drain engine oil into used oil drain; inspect bolt threads for damage and bolt seal; reinstall bolt; remove engine oil filter and place in used oil drain; install new engine oil filter; check for grease fittings and grease; lower vehicle; add new engine oil; start engine to fill engine oil filter; shut-off engine; check engine oil and add if necessary; check all fluids, including brake, power steering, battery, transmission/axle, engine coolant, windshield washer). Also, include the project (ex. LOF; Lube, Oil, & Filter) and all Tools & Equipment required (ex. 3/8" drive, 14mm, 6 point, deep socket and ratchet, grease gun, Hydra-Lift, rag, safety glasses).
- I am watching, listening, and helping the students as they work. I will give every student a practical mark based on their participation and Daily Log entry. Every student learns at a different rate and the students come from many different back grounds (ex. a student that has been helping to fix and maintain farm equipment for years is very different than the student that has grown up in an apartment and has always traveled on public transit). Both students are capable of excellent marks; effort = success.
- Students must hand in their Report Folder at the end of Friday; I will mark during the weekend.
